West End World of Food Festival returns September 18

The sixth annual West End World of Food Festival is being held Saturday, September 18, 2021, from noon to 11:00 p.m. on 19th Street between Liberty and Allen in Allentown. The festival features vendors representing food from around the world and also includes some local favorites. Beer and wine are available for purchase. There is live music all day, craft and packaged food vendors, and activities for children. The World of Food Festival supports the West End Alliance, Inc., an independent nonprofit neighborhood development organization.

Music begins at noon with The Large Flowerheads and continues throughout the day with We May Be Right: Billy Joel Tribute band at 2:30 p.m., M80 Party Band at 5:30 p.m. and Emily’s Toybox at 8:30 p.m.

Some of the food vendors participating in the event include: Bull and Bear Restaurant, Caribbean Islands Cuisine, Heaven on a Bun, Hoff’s Kettle Corn, Josie’s Fancy Funnels, Little Mike’s Fine Food, Pie in a Cone, Puertorrican Culture Preservation, Sherri’s Crab Cakes, Take a Taco, The Bagel Bus, The Little Sicilian and The Shanty on 19th.

“Everyone can just come and enjoy themselves. There is no admission charge. We are family-friendly and dog-friendly and we encourage visitors to patronize the merchants in the Theatre District. All the money raised goes to the West End Alliance and stays in the neighborhood paying for the planters, holiday décor, roof lighting, clean-up events, tree planting and other amenities,” says Scott Smith, owner of TDS Technologies, West End Alliance past president and chairperson of the Events Committee.

Two eating contests will take place in front of the bandshell in between the music performances with $100 in gift cards awarded to the winners. See how many donuts from Mary Ann Donut Kitchen you can eat in 120 seconds at 5:00 p.m. or chocolate cake from Wert’s Cafe at 8:00 p.m. The eating contests are limited to 8 individuals, 18 years of age or older.
